Positioning of PIRs etc

Most of my rooms are laid out with the window at one end with the entrance
into the room being at the opposite end. Am I right in thinking that PIRs
should be located above the window facing into the room for best operation,
ie fewer false alarms due to curtains etc.

I also have a couple of ceiling mount 360 degree PIRs any advice on the
best
place to use these?
