Okay if that is the case why are the "environmental" people
trying to
replace all power cables in the countryside with green one's that blend
into
the countryside?

If you are a Pilot in an emergency land situation the last thing you want
to
have to do is try and see the "green blended in with the scenery"
cables!
got enough workload as it is!

Mind you, that is why helicopters in the low level environment have cable
strike protection kit fitted! cable wrapped round the 'ole main rotor head
aint good for the old ticker ya know.....

Support wires.

Running CAT5 externally is not adviseable. Anything but a black
sheath degrades seriously due to UV in the sunlight.

BT used to used Cream or White cable extenally but now it should all
be black. After a few years exposure to UV the sheath becomes brittle
and cracks thereby letting water in.
