Being a single man living alone (couldn't possibly tolerate being
told what I can and can't do, sorry those with SWMBO's! d;-) once
the clocks changed I started to get concerned that my house
looked quite obviously unoccupied a lot of the time.

Whilst I was originally thinking of some alarm clock style interface
to light switches via X10, what I actually ended up as a useful
interim measure was some additional bayonets in the bulb sockets
that I found in Homebase whilst picking up some bits.

It leave the light switched on, but it won't actually be active until the
unit turns the light on when the light drops enough. And then it
stays on for a predetermined number of hours; 3, 6, 9, 12 or until
the light returns at dawn.

Neato.

All I wanted was something to turn the lights on at 4pm and off at
11pm or so if I'm not present. Being on all night kind of defeats the
'occupied' look.

Couple of those in the hall and an upstairs back room and the
house will look a little more occupied. A nice 'get me started' until I
actually dare check out some of these X10 toys.
