I've done a little bit of COM stuff in VB before - also to talk to
Homeseer,
so I am fine with making the middleware component talk to Homeseer, and I
expect it will be just as straightforward to make it talk to Messanger. (I
hope it will anyway!)

Yup, I'd though of that too... plus the IM client is built-in to Win XP as
well....
