I can't comment too much on most of these, but here are my views on EIB.

EIB is a very extensive system. It's primarily aimed at commercial projects
and has the abilities for massive scale on complexity (Jubilee line
extension and Canary Wharf). The number and range of types of device that
can be controlled is vast, there are also quite of few large companies that
supply them (Siemens being the biggest). The system is very programmable
and can take input/control some none EIB devices, there are even Java
interfaces available. Due to the commercial aspect of the system, you can
be certain (almost) that the particular device is available.

Now the downsides. It bloody expensive. Again, because it's commercial
that's where the prices are aimed. Also the quality of the components is
greater than you might expect of a home project. Training is expensive
(BRSCC at Watford do it). It's mostly a European thing, so companies
dealing with it in the UK are limited.

I really do like EIB and it's far more than a lighting system. It can
control blinds, shutters, heating, lighting and can be attached to all
manor of sensors. Siemens even have EIB enabled washing machines, fridges
and hobs. You could easily build a complete security system with it. It's
also Internet enabled to allow for remote control.
