Good theory Phil, I have a totally duff AP doing just the same!

The diagram to do this is for some other AP not the one's I bought from
Laser.

I spent quite some time on the phone talking to Ian B. about this but it
never did work.

Be warned, unless you can find out how to do it then let Ian B. and me know
please.

Yup ... You need to cut the link which will disable the local control
feature of the appliance module...

If you open up the module it is the only link that I have found on the
board - just above the microcontroller and may be buried underneath a
ceramic capacitor.
