Will this still read the temp okay inside a copper tube?

The one I have in the Meerkat nest box was slid down inside a protective
wire cage "tube" but the little gits have gradually torn the wire
to bits

The best suggestion I've seen is to mount the 1820 inside a short length of
copper tude, then bung the ends up with silicone. The copper provides
excellent heat transfer and the silicone prevents your 1820 becominf
corroded.
