Blimey, when the site said this was a high traffic list, it wasn't messing
about was it! Anyway, lots of useful info for me to squirrel away for
future reference.
Anyways, hello :-)
I bought a flat back in March and came to the conclusion that I want to
sort
out a PC CAT5 network so I can use my laptop wherever I fancy, as well as
have the freedom to stick my PC & server anywhere I want them so I went
out
and bought the requisite bits and pieces. I was just about to start
ripping
up my carpet and pulling up my floorboards when I thought about going
further and routing TV (terrestrial and cable) around to the other rooms
and, before I knew it, I'd gone through about 10 HA sites and thought,
"What
the hell, let's plan for doing the lot". As you do.
Now, bearing in mind I'm fine with CAT5 stuff (as it pertains to PC
networks
anyway), what sort of cabling do I want to think about laying as well as
the
CAT5? The ultimate goal is network points in every room, TV points too,
audio availability from a central source (managed preferably by IR remotes
in the rooms in question), alarm system, lighting controls, heating etc
etc.
Basically the whole schmear :-)
Now I know this is an extremely large brief, but I'm quite happy to take
aeons doing it in a staged approach. However, it obviously makes sense to
get any and all cabling I might need done right from the beginning. Once I
get that done and my PC network sorted out, I'll no doubt be firing more
questions your way regarding TV signalling, telephone systems and so on,
but
I think this will keep me occupied for a few weekends for now.
All and any advice appreciated.
Regards
Graham
