NO !!!!

Your phone line wouldnt work properly and the merest hint of a storm would
send HomeVison to that skip in the sky.

You can use a resistor and opto-isolator connected between the Bell wire
(3)
and the A wire (5). Simply wire it to a HV port. Total cost about a quid.

I will see if I have got one and have a play.

complete guess...

couldn't you just conect the "bell" wire from your phone line to
a HV input
port, protected by a suitable drop-down resistor, as I suppose a phone line
supplies something like 50V or so....

But I'm sure the Doxeyman will provide a sensible answer!
