When I had mine installed (long time ago admittedly) the limit was 3.5km.

The salespeople can run a simple test from their desk to check if it is in
range anyway and can do so while you are on the phone. This is what they
did
for me when I first had it.

Just phoned BT to see if I could get HH for my parents. Bod on phone - you
need to be within TWENTY-FIVE METRES of your exchange!

As my parents don't live on the pavement outside an exchange I suggested
that was a bit too short.  She then came back with 3.5Kms.  Now - I have HH
at 4.8Kms so I think she was talking about ADSL.  I told her this but she
said that came from her manager.  She's looking into it and phoning me
back - incredible product knowledge!
