Re: Re: Comfort - what do you get?

A word of warning regarding termination of screened cable inside alarm
panels or any other metal enclosure.
Our control panel manufacturer submitted a new system for testing and it
failed on its rf performance, on investigation the problem was found to be
the 150mm tails earthing the cable screen acting as an ariel inside the
steel enclosure. The correct way to terminate is to strip back the screen
to
just inside the case, then keep the earth tail as short as possible
connecting it to the metal work as close to the entry hole as you can. I
don't know how the Comfort system is laid out but our supplier now fits
earth terminations adjacent to each cable entry hole.
Also only earth the panel end and put tape or a sleeve around the other end
to stop straglies. (ooo is that a word?)
