I had this.

It's a quality of connectors thing: you can tell quite easily..

This is a hound to explain, so I have attached some teensy pictures.
(hope no-one minds)

if you look into your RJ45 Socket, if the connectors at the top have deep
plastic guides so that the conductor is constrained between the supports,
it
will be fine.. if on the other hand, the conductors are free in space, and
rely on the guids on the RJ45 plug itself to hold them in place, don't use
RJ11's in this socket..

leviton.jpg is an (otherwise fine) socket that shouldn't be sued with RJ11
plugs: the conductors would be flattened down beyond their elasticity
point,
and would be unreliable if re-used for RJ45 again.

good1 and 2.jpg are images of one of my patch panels (the one I use for
phones!) which has good guides in place. asides from the future
reliability,
these give a much more secure RJ11 fit in the first place....
