Hi

I know that Homebase was mentioned in this thread some time ago but I am
posting this for general interest ...

Before B&Q dropped the price of their split air-con units, Homebase
were
selling a 9K BTU split model (KYFR22) for £199. I bought one of these for
the main bedroom as I heard they were relatively quiet in operation. They
are also more compact and easier to fit into a corner of a room.

Operation is by momentary membrane buttons with LCD display and has such
functions as temp control, 8 hr timer and a 'sweep' mode which moves
automatically moves the louvres. The main on/off control looks like two
seperate buttons but, in fact, both the '1' and '0' buttons toggle on and
off operation so I purchased the UM7206 Universal X10 module from
LetsAutomate and wired that to the '1' contacts (could of course been the
'0'). This is an easy job for people who can use a soldering iron but
could,
with a bit of thought, be achieved without an iron.

This works just fine! The added advantage is that, in time, I can replace
the 7206 with an 4 relay X10 controller and connect to the temp and
function
controls - may be overkill for the bedroom though :-)

There is an added advantage in that this unit can also function as a
heater,
de-humidifier or just a fan!

Hope this is of some use
Paul
