>I got some Ring transformers for dichloric LV lighting model No. DET-105, has anyone tried these on an >LD10/11 and if so do they work okay?

I dont know the answer to Kens question but a safe way to test it would be to put a 500W or 1000W halogen floodlamp in SERIES with the transformer to test. If the LV load is about 50-100W then if all is well there will be a dim light from the floodlight. If however the Floodlight gives a bright light or a surge of bright light when it is switched on then the electronic transformer is taking a large surge which could damage the LD10. If all is well remove the Floodlight and try the Transformer directly on the LD10.

The reason for the floodlamp is to limit the maximum current that can flow. With a 500W halogen this will be 2amps, 4amps with a 1000W. This might still cause the fuse to blow in the LD10 but will not damage the triac. By comparison, if the Transformer was unsuitable there could be a surge current of several hundred amps for a few milliseconds which would turn the triac into an Ex-Triac.

Just noticed the advert that was at the bottom of Ken's last posting.

An advert for losing weight. Given that more than one of the people on this list are built for comfort not speed and that this had been mentioned on more that one occasion, I have deduced that .....

a. Yahoo MUST be reading our posts.
b. This advert was directly targeted at those of larger than average proportions.

My excuse is that I couldnt possibly fit all my accumulated knowledge into a smaller storage unit........OK so the real reason is that I dont get enough exersize and I eat too many Pizza's.

Must go.....got a KAT5 component delivery to collect from the Post Orrafice. Ordered from Rapid at 1500 yesterday, arrived before I got up today. Thats what I call service ;-)
