Hi folx,

I have just stumbled on to the world of home automation and would like to
try it in my house.

I will admit to being a newbie, only know a few things from the web I have
read today. However I am a geek by nature and am happy with house wiring
etc. We are just about to redecorate the entire house so if I am going to
do
any wiring now sounds like a good time.

So really I have a few questions..

1. How can I find out where to start.. I presume I need to know about X10
and would be looking at using a PC to control this.
2. What cabling do I need to consider.. cat5 etc and what goes where ?
3. I have seen some Starter Kits on letsautomate.com - e.g. X10 Kit No 2
10293 (Computer Control Kit)
- is this the sort of thing I should look at getting.
4. What sort of things can I do for what sort of budget (as a guide I am
able to spend a few thousand probably)
5. I guess good points to start would be:
a - Internal House Network
b - Controlling lights
c - Audio throughout House
d - TV/Video/DVD throughout House
e - Voice Control/Web Control etc

Without trying to sound too out of my depth... where do I start !!

thanks

alex
