I can just picture a solid chrome joystick rises from a slot in your poofee....with appropriate mechanical noises....and all the lights dim red...

[ukha_d] HomeSeer control using gameport.
.
Category:

I have been working on a small app to control HS using devices connected to
a gameport. This will be released as freeware.
I wondered if any HS users on this list would like to test it before I
release it to a wider audience?
Send me a mail off list and I will send you the files at some point over the
weekend.

Cheers,
Justin.

The (hastily knocked up) readme is as follows:

HomeSeer Gameport Interface. 17/8/2001

You will need the Visual Basic 6 runtime files (VBRun60.exe) installed. They
are available here
(http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q192/4/61.ASP

This software allows you to send on/off commands to HomeSeer using any game
device (joystick or gamepad) connected to your PC. You could also wire
sensors, switches etc to the game device or do away with the game device
completely and wire directly to the gameport*.

The software will detect the number of buttons available on your installed
device and present these in a list. By default the buttons will be set to
toggle mode (i.e press once for on and press again for off) you also have
the option to selectively choose a momentary operation (i.e press and hold
for on, release for off).

The default housecode is A and unit number is 1, in this configuration the
buttons will send A1 to Ax (where x is the number of buttons available).
You can choose any housecode A to z and unit number 1 to 50.

This has only been tested under Win98 with HomeSeer version 1.5.2

Planned additions:
Control over a network using TCP/IP.
Ability to use multiple game devices.

Notes:
If a button is set to toggle mode but is held down no other button presses
will be detected until it is released.

*Wiring directly to the gameport
