If you dont want to use the firewall/NAT features, just connect your broadband connection to the 'home' side. Then use your favourite s/w firewall solution to protect your PC's.

My recommendation was based on features, price and the fact the SMC devices work on epods, 249.00 GBP for barricade + FREE pcmcia card.

Just a little problem with the SMC barricade broadband, if I am reading this
correctly it uses NAT, this means that certain things will not work on
the 'home' side of the router.

Among these are netmeeting, mirc dcc send, ftp servers and webservers (I
think it also screws some games).

As far as I can tell there is no way to either turn this off or use port
forwarding to circumvent it.

The thing that really bugs me is they are selling it as a firewall feature
and advertising it as a plus point! If you want to do any of the above things
then you will need to connect the PC/PCs doing them before this device (which
means you cannot do them over wireless).

Fine for people who want to do nothing much but send email and browse the web
but how many of them will be broadband users?
