1. Just install TCP/IP protocol and Microsoft Networking client.

2. Only if using a web inteface I think.  Don't think you can map a serial port from one machine to another?

3. No problems.  Client machine needs to be modern-ish to un-encode though.  My aging 166MMX laptop won't handle WMA or DiVX.

Subject: [ukha_d] Networking HA PC

Hi all

I am just finishing installing my second HomeBrew PC at home and have some questions about using the two to control HA:

  1. I would like to be able to network the two PC's together to make life easier for myself. I have two 10/100 Network cards and a X-over cable. What do I need to do to make the PC's talk to each other?
  2. I only intend on leaving PC1 running 24/7 but occasionally would like to issue X10 commands from PC2.  Is it possible to "map" the port to which my X10 controller is connected to on PC1 to let PC2 control it? If so how is this done?
  3. Has anyone used the Windows Media Encoder and if so how good/bad/ugly/easy is it to use to stream media from one PC to the other. I remember reading a post on this some time back but I think it was to do with a TV card. What I am actually wanting to do is stream DVD and/or mp3 from one PC to the other.
Cheers

Pedro de Oliveira
