No. Its Keith " I cant detect ANY difference " Doxey.
 
That's what I use as my benchmark - forget reviews and opinions - if I can't hear (or see) a difference then it isn't worth the money. How significant the difference has t be depends on how much it costs.
 
And I take your point on amplification. I have around 1kW in my Home Cinema system - if I cranked up the volume my ears would probably start bleeding, and it would be me who would be "well deaf" :)
