I really don't want to get too involved in a "virtue of WAP"
discussion,
mainly because I agree with most of your points... In many ways WAP is
disappointing, and is only a temporary answer to a question which not many
people were asking in the first place (temporary because it'll die off as
soon as decent mobile bandwidth and truly portable screens become a
reality)... It's also true that I very rarely do anything with WAP other
than HA.

However, in my case, WAP was a clean, and cheap solution to a couple of
remote access issues I had.  Cheap because setting up a WAP server costs
nothing if you have a 24/7 Internet link, and the technical
knowledge/interest to do so.

The main advantage of WAP over a remote e-mail solution is the ability for
two-way communication.  I don't generally use WAP to switch on lights and
the like (with the exception of the alarm)... What's the point... if I'm
out, then the PC handles all that itself.  However I do like the ability to
check on the status of the house remotely.  WAP gives me the ability to do
that from anywhere at anytime.

Anyway, enough said! - For me, WAP was there, so I used it... :-)
