Re: OTish: WAP Phones...

OK, I was thinking that maybe I was a little harsh, so I tried out the wap
functions on my phone again.

Yahoo's email, or my WAP browser aren't working...

To be fair, I've been using an old palm professional!! to web browse and
email since the days of the 8110, and as you would expect, it kicks the
stuffing out of wap. Actual web pages! rather than text only pages, that if
I remember correctly, do not have a vertical scroll display? (IE can't tell
if your seeing whole page, bottom of page, top of page etc... nice!)

But maybe in HA terms, with customised pages, to turn on a light...? I
think
WAP could handle that, but then so can email? So why not send the email
using the wap browser, and not bother investing time and energy creating a
wap page, wap server, wap site?

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted it not to suck and maybe it does have
its uses if you don't have any alternative, but as you say 'it just doesn't
work as advertised' and thats what erks....

BTW Sony has a mobile which I believe renders normal HTML, but as I said, a
friend has had a few of these and they all died. Also WAP has been panned
by
most reviews, and may not be around in the long term... see articles on
theregister..
