I've built a similar circuit. It only controls one Slink port, rather
than the 8 that the Nirvis unit does, and it doesn't do IR. I use it to
control a CDP-CX200 200CD changer. It's an AT2051 (8051 with Flash),
plus a few other passive components, and it converts from Serial to
Slink and back. I've actually got it connected to a Dallas TINI
(www.ibutton.com), so my CD player has a web interface.

If anyone wants more details, please let me know - the code needs some
cleaning up, but it works most of the time. . .
