Hi Eamon,

I would try to put the X10 control in PARALLEL with the conventional timer
rather than in series. That way, if the X10 should fail for any reason you
could simply use the conventional timer.

The only difference in operation would be that instead of leaving the
timeswitch permanantly ON, you need to leave it permanantly OFF. It also
makes it simpler if you ever want to remove your automation as you just
disconnect the extra wiring.

I dont have central heating but did replace the timeswitch on my Immersion
Heater with an AD10 and it is vastly superior. When I go on holiday I no
longer need to leave the immersion heater on or come home to no hot water
because using Homevision I can tell it not to come back on until a couple
of
hours before I am due home. Also if I manually override the timed functions
it will automatically switch off after 90 minutes unlike before when it
would stay on for hours.

You can see my AD10 conversion at

Subject: [ukha_d] Urgent question on AW10's

Hi,

My electrician is due to start work tomorrow, and I have just had a bit
of a doubt over whether an idea for my heating would work or not, hopefully
someone can re-assure me that it will...

Basically, I am installing a normal oil fired central heating system with
three zones:- Living area, sleeping area, and hot water tank. My plan to
provide x-10 control to this was to have each zone working through a
standard mechanical time clock (you know the ones with the pins you push
out for each 15 min period of the day/night). So each zone would have a
time clock, and each clock would also have an on/off switch beside it. I
intend to replace each of these switches with an AW10, which will power on
each clock, depending on which zone I wanted blah blah blah...

Now the clocks are just a get out clause if I decide X10 is a piece of
crap or I want to sell the house etc, I intend on having the clocks on
24hrs a day, with the AW10's doing the on/off bits.

The question is will this work..... and will the AW10's have to have
their own circuit or can they all be fed of the same live and neutral...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Eamon
