Takami - it means "excellent idea"

If you are wondering if I've just fallen off my trolley and started
wittering on about some hippy rubbish, then fear not. I am actually about
to
talk about one of the more interesting things I saw at the Ideal Home
show...

Believe it or not, it's from Tiny... (Yes, the PC complany slagged off by
Anne Robinson on Watchdog...)

It's a PC, designed to be a total entertainment centre, along much the same
lines as a number of people are talking about here.

It's totally silver, It's in a case that's the same size as a piece of MIDI
hi-fi kit, - about 15" wide, 4-5" high, and ??? deep...

It has a built-in DVD-ROM drive, front mounted USB (x2), front mounted
microphone & headphone sockets, and a front-mounted IR receiver. (it
does
NOT look a like a PC, it looks like a DVD player...)

The following guff is from the promotional pamphlet that I picked up om
their stand....

<Marketing guff starts>
Takami shows all terrestrial channels.
Takami links to your existing sat. or cable connections
Takami records TV programmes without videotape and stores them in its own
tv
library
Takami connects to your camcorder and plays your footage
Takami offers you T:Break :- the pause live TV feature
Takami offers all the usual features tou expect from a DVD player
Takami is Dolby Digital and DTS compatible
Takami plays CDs
Takami records 150 CD's onto its built-in jukebox
Takami can connect to MP3 internet sites to download & store music
Takami plays any internet radio station
Takami is a powerful PC
Takami has a wireless keyboard
Takami functions are operated by a single remote control
Takami gives instant internet access
Takami plays the latest games on CD or DVD ROM
Takami has 2 USB ports to connect.... whatever...
<Marketing guf ends>

So basically, it is a PC with all of the PVR stuff built-in. - details are
hard to come by at the moment, - this thing has only just been launched (at
the show), and isn't even on Tiny's website yet. So I don't know the
specific hardware details with regards to processor, memory HDD size etc...

It did look impressive when I saw it though, - they had several set up
playing DVD's out to a 42" plaasma screen and a 5.1 sound system.

It's available in the following packages:

£999 - Takami plus 2 speakers & subwoofer (exclusive Ideal home show
deal
"throws in" a Handspring Visor PDA)

£1499 Takami plus 15" LCD flatscreen, 2 speakers, & subwoofer.
(Ditto the
PDA)

£1999 Takami plus 17" LCD flatscreen, 2 speakers & sub. (Ditton
PDA deal)

£6999 Takami plus 42" gas plasma screen, 5 speakers, & subwoofer,
Dolby
5.1/DTS processor (I think it's the Videologic one) - (Ideal home show deal
with this one is a portable DVD player "thrown in"!!)

Optional upgrades include:

£299 - the Videologic 5.1 DTS surround package
£399 - 3 tier glass rack system
£25 - wireless gamepad

Oh, and all those prices >INCLUDE< VAT by the way...

It's probably not the Mutt's nuts internally, but it looked to be well
integrated, it looked nice, and I wouldn't have minded too much having one
in my living room....
