Title: Re: [ukha_d] Bathroom Light Switch

Hi Gareth - I did see your previous post.

The site for the Secret/Sensor Switch people is www.sensor.co.uk , they make the 'wire in a wall' switch and also a surface mounted or concealed switch.

The Touch 'n' Glo people (Hidden Systems) do not have a web site yet, (due next week ). They can be contacted on 01730 817763.They are also exhibiting at the Ideal Home show currently. I have bought a couple of these switches (may even have on spare !) and just trying them now. The Touch'n'Glo one is nice cosmetically and they have 2 way (now) and intermediate switching available imminently. They also make 2,3 and 4 gang versions. However I have to say that there are a number of varients, (dimmers, timed dimers, gradual dimmers, timed on, off, security etc and also a version that does all of these. The 'interface' to these functions is quite complex though making them a bit confusing eg count flashes of light and then touch - up to 250 (!) for the number of minutes /seconds  timers- I don't really know how they would have made it better but there you go. They also wipe these 'settings once you interrupt them to use them normally. A bummer if you want 3 hours delay !

Lastly your application was to activate a solenoid if I remember rightly to spring open a hifi door (?). Unfortunately this will be an 'inductive' load and should not be used on such a switch so the above may be academic. You could theoretically have a double switching system but these switches require a 40W minimum load as well so that's not really an option either.

Aha !

- I asked on this forum a couple of weeks ago for a similar type of thing for access to my A/V cabinet - any details, phone number, website for where I can get one of these switches ?

Thanks !

A local retailer (David Harrisons) here sells proximity switches that look
like a standard single gang blanking plate, there is a small led i think
which is just about visible.

Salesman also told me you could fit it behind, say a bathroom tile and it
would still work.

Any good?
