Well, depends on price, but if they were cheap enough, probably 4
transmitters and three receivers.

As a serious point, if I wanted to switch, should I do this within the CAT5
domain?

details)

It would be nice to have some idea what the demand would be. I am
attempting
to use the same PCB for the transmitter and reciever so that I only have
one
type of board. This will save me one lot of setup charges and also double
the quantity of boards I order. Both factors will help to drive the cost
down. Also subject to the number of units required I can look at different
suppliers of the components.

When the TSOP 1838 was discontinued I managed to find some suppliers that
offered prices substantailly lower than Maplin were charging. Unfortunately
they didnt have any stock ! They also had minimum orders approaching the
£200 mark. If there is only a demand for 10 items then I cant even consider
such suppliers, but if there is a need for 100 then I am one happy bunny
:-)

When I was at the PCB company yesterday they asked what the circuit was
for.
After telling them about it they want a demo of a finished unit with a view
to using them on their own CCTV system as they have their whole site flood
wired with CAT5 :-)
