Coax S/P-DIF maximum is 10m, IIRC. Actual achievable max might be a lot
less or a bit more depending on the equipment, and the surrounding noise.
Optical, dunno. However, as you probably aren't making them up yourself,
the limit will probably be the longest optical interconnect you can buy...
I've only seen up to 2m for audio, but I've never needed anything even that
length so longer ones might be available.
If you could convert it to AES/EBU (balanced 'pro' digital), it should
manage a few hundred metres with good quality cable. S/P-DIF to AES/EBU
converters are available, or maybe you could build a differential line
driver and receiver yourself?
