Have you got details (make and model).  It's not something I come across
often, but it may be useful to keep a note of it, as it sounds useful!

Is it completely passive, or does it need an external power source?  How
does the quality compare to a 'proper' preamp?  I'm a bit surprised to hear
about it if it is passive, there's very little power in a turntable output,
so stepping it up to line level would seem difficult at best... I'd assumed
it wasn't feasible at all.  Does it just do the equalisation, or is the
output level the same as, say, a CD player?

Approximate cost?
