Below is a copy of a posting on the Comfort Trade mailing list earlier
today. It gives interesting info on up-and-coming IR features!

M.

Cytech are working on better IR support for Comfort, due out early next
year though.
This will include direct IR learning abilities (special UCM), IR Received
Responses (128) and possibly a library of popular codes and Pronto .ccf.
Comfort will still be able to store 32 IR codes.

The keypad will also be fitted with IR send & receive leds. This can be
retrofitted to any REV E PCB system (with new firmware IC U1) and the IR
keypads may be mixed with normal Comfort keypads.

This will be quite exciting as Comfort could then be armed using a IR
Remote Control which we are also sourcing, or (X10)lights or output
responses may also be operated from IR, such as Garge Doors and Gates etc.
This should remove the need for the X10 IR7243 and be more flexible.

eg proposed new operation:
The Comfort IR receiver does not take any IR signal and retransmit it.
What it does is to recognise a
specific set of codes say Comfort code 1 to 128 and tell the Comfort panel
that it has received a valid
code. Comfort will then activate a Response based on the received code.
The IR receive function is a way to
allow a Pronto or other universal learning handheld remote to control
Comfort, but the IR codes do not
directly activate any appliance - they just go to Comfort; Comfort can
send X10 codes or open the gate
or arm the security system in response

We have not put in any capability to retransmit infrared signals.
However with the IR keypad, you would be able to control your downstairs
VCR or satelite from any room.
You would program Code N, say for Downstairs VCR ON, send that code from
your Pronto, program the IR Response to send the VCR IR code from an
output,
and the same result would be achieved
