Dear Nigel,
I think we often have to sacrifice beauty for functionility and cost
effectiveness especially in new markets like HA.
The keypads are very functional and quite cost effective and fit into the
typical security system design which they have been based on.
However, they are speaking keypads and this is quite a determining factor
in
their design.
We figure that aiming too high with expensive moldings and designs can have
a disproportionate under-return on the investment which can (in fragile
markets) cause the collapse of a Company. It's better we stay in the race
by
conserving our resources developing new products as the market increases.
By
American standards, the UK /European residential HA Market is non-existent
(but growing).
This will have a direct impact on the way we can develop Comfort.
However, we are working on better infra-red support ('send' and 'receive'
leds in the front of keypad and a touchscreen remote control and Pronto
support is coming) for Comfort and this may mean that the keypad is used
less on an everyday control basis. Additionally, there is an LCD Keypad
made
by Applied Digital which you should be able to control Comfort via the
RS232 (UCM01) http://www.appdig.com/leopardpreviw.html
I hope this explains our position a little.
