Its not a daily exercise then  - just holidays or when you are away from
home for more than a night.
You could use a Revo plus IR Modem - which works at 56k when plugged into a
phone line or at cell rate (9600?) when plugged into a non modem GSM phone.
You should be able to get a bundled package below ?400. You can also use
the
56k modem with a IRDA Laptop :-)
