Don't panic Mark, _you_ don't have to install Linux, you've made your
decision.  And no-one is going to force you to.  But for those who would
like a more reliable system, whether for running their house or just word
processing, they can still run Windows stuff under emulators.  And you can
sort of do it the other way round- with some Linux distributions allowing
you to try it out 'under' Windows, though it won't be as solid as a
separate system.
