Almost correct Jon,

Capacitor between 2 & 3, resistor (470K only for line test purposes and
may
or may not be fitted) between 3&5

Bells are across 3&5 and shorting this will indeed stop all ringing BUT
ONLY
FOR COMPLIANT PHONES. Cheapie imports designed for other contries will
still
ring. As I said in an earlier post, you may also experience faint speech if
you use this method.

Also if you stop the Master from ringing then an answering machine
connected
to the master socket would not be able to take calls while the system was
silenced because it wouldnt know the line was ringing !
