If I remember correctly, Pin 3 of the master socket is the junction of a
capacitor and resistor. Surely, then connecting a switch/relay across this
resistor (between pins 2 and 3 I think?) will shunt all ringing,
irrespective of where the shunt device and phones are located - even works
on phones plugged into the master socket.
Pitfalls - Over to you...
