Telephone Preference Scheme:
A legal framework that became part of UK law thanks to an EC directive.
Much
like the Mail-order preference scheme, but for phone spam. Once you have
registered it becomes a criminal offence for telemarketers to call you, and
they "can" be subject to a maximum £5K fine for breaching the
directive.
