for other people that have a little more time to play around with this, I used to control 3 B+W cameras off a bunch of 12 volt car relays and a couple of flasher units.  you can quite happly switch low res video through a standard relay.

on another thought, some of the new Mitsubishi videos have an option for security cctv recording, (motion detection from memory)

Hi Campbell,

Sorry to hear of the situation in which you find yourself, I will try to offer what advice I can.

With regard to recording the cameras, multi screen presentation is not a cheap thing to do. The pictures from the cameras have to be digitised and then selectively read back from memory to display them on the screen simultaneously. This gets even more expensive for colour and usually means several hundred pounds :-(

I did fit a unit this summer that was supplied by Henry's and it is currently used with 9 of their £69 colour board cameras although in your instance black and White will be preferable due to the low light levels at night.

I dont know the name or number of the switcher but I am sure Henry's will be pleased to advise.

The one in question has 9 inputs and modes of operation are

Sequential scanning of all 9 cameras (time adjustable)
    Quad display 1-4
    Quad display 5-8
    Alternate quads 1-4 then 5-8
    All 9 cameras on screen.

Each camera can have a name programmed in which is superimposed on the recording along with date and time stamp. What particularly impressed me was the fact that irrespective of which display mode you chose, the VCR still records ALL 9 cameras. Not as 9 pictures on one screen but every 9th frame from each camera full screen.

On playback you can choose any of the above display modes. Its an extremely nice unit but not cheap. I believe it was about £795 :-(

Not a bad price for what it does, but an awful lot to shell out.

It might be worth considering a bank of cheap video recorder from the local supermarket. I have seen VCR's for as low as £69-95

Hope everything turns out OK.

Keith

Friends,

I am asking for your help. Currently the situation where I live is very serious, last night a glass bottle was smashed over my head and another resident had his head gashed with a belt buckle.

It started with a gang of about 50 youths all drunk with some high on other substances damaging property, 2 were apprehended and the nice police officers gave them a lift home. This left the area without any police patrols. It was then the youths decided to congregate and challenge. About 4 neighbours and myself tried to ask them to move on, some of the gang were also trying to move their friends on. Whilst talking with one youth, another (extremely spaced) smashed me over the head with a bottle.

After this I was dazed but couldn't let myself fall or I would be attacked on the ground. Discretion is the better part of valour and I had to walk away and ask a neighbour to get an ambulance. Fortunately I was not too serious but my neighbours, my wife and son were distraught. The police took some 40 minutes before they returned, the ambulance took a further 20 minutes.

This all took place last night...

Tonight the cul de sac was scouted by four suspects in a car and shot off when they were seen. We believe we are going to be hit either tonight or at the weekend, the cars/houses may be attacked.

I have one color cctv camera, and intend to buy some black and white ones tomorrow.

The question is can anyone recommend a good box which will :

a. copy all cameras onto single tape at once i.e. quarter screen.
or
b. give me some advice. Anything at all would be helpful.

I apologise if this email seems fragmented, but I am sure you can understand why.

Campbell
