Not sure about 'im, but have a look at http://www.wordsworth.co.uk.  If you
just want a standard 3U case, with no built-in display, price is about
=A3180, 45 quid for a backplane, about =A3250 for the single board computer
then whatever other standard PC bits you want to add.  You could probably
fit a standard motherboard in the case instead.  The single board PC can
have serial, parallel, video etc built in.

We've used them for a few units (with LCD displays) and they've been very
reliable, and helpful in the tech support side of things (even when it's
been hard to tell if the fault is with the PC, the software, or our add-in
hardware).

The other neat thing is that they do power supplies from 12V dc to 240V ac,
so you could run the whole system off a float-charged battery and not need
a UPS!  We use the 12V ones for sea trials, and connect them up like that
when setting stuff up in the lab.
