Stuart,

Yes the sensor does just connect directly across the Dallas 1-wire bus.
Note, however, that the "DS9097 Com Port Adaptor" is an active
circuit in
that it contains the necessary 1-wire bus to RS232 interface (not just RxD
+
GND).

As far as actually using the devices, I have just received their weather
station (contains Temp, wind-speed and wind-direction sensors all on the
same 1-wire bus) and Rain Gauge, and I am just getting to grips with it.
On
the face of it would seem that the difficult part is getting the sensors
connected to the pc or whatever (The example uses the DS9097) and then it
looks a simple task to mod their software to monitor any number of sensors
on the wire.

Regards,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Thanks for that link.

On the Dallas site, there is a document "Application Note 104,
Minimalist Temp. Control Demo" Which has a circuit diagram. If you
strip
off the peizo sensor and LED's you get a very simple ciruit with just
the the actual sensor and a connection to the com port.

Have you actually used the 1820 or 1821? Is it really that simple?
