1) It's easier to run all cables at once- if you can pull the existing
cable back up with a string on the end, attach the new cable, and pull it
all along with the string, it will be easier than trying to fight a new
cable past the existing one.
2) RS sell magic gloop called AquaGel II. It is unreservedly worth its
weight in gold when pulling cable in conduit. Buy some. Now.

Yes, that would work. If you are taking the existing cable out, you could
just use a thinner replacement, but you probably have good reasons for
wanting to keep the existing cable. There are unusually thin cables
screened pair cables available, usually sold as microphone cables- if you
can tell me what sort of diameter you can spare, I could maybe suggest
something suitable.
I presume you have unusually thick cable to the surround speakers, as I
can't think of a common size of conduit that won't at least carry 1 2.5mm
T&E mains cable. Surround speakers would be quite happy down a length
of
0.5mm, or maybe you've got micro-conduit?

That definitely _is_ the challenge- it all has to work bug-free first time
for full spouse-approval factor :-)
