Cable Identification

Anyone got any useful recommendations for cable identification tags or
whatever.
I'm not keen on simply using Permanent Markers (I don't trust they'll be
there in 2 years time, when I need to move things.)
I'm not sure, with the sheer amount of cables starting to build up, of
using
tags attached to the cables.
I've considered getting the smallest Avery labels and printing from my PC,
and then selotaping on.
Any ideas ?
