I've found the most successful approach for domestic harmony is to do the
work in stages, with one obvious benefit for us after each stage. So the
wiring to the kitchen meant that 5 cables were run, and a phone appeared in
the kitchen, the outside wiring resulted in a wired 'doorbell' when the
back gate is opened, the wiring to the lounge meant audio/video anywhere in
the house etc etc. and the less visible benefit is that now there are lots
of 'spare' cables for other uses around the house.
The other cables can be connected up later, with less disruption. Mind
you, I'm maybe just lucky in having a wife not _too_ opposed to floorboards
being lifted and technological toys being introduced... as long as they
don't cost money and don't get in the way.
