Hi,

I'm using iButtons in the form of Dalass's 1-wire Weather Station kit.
(see
my semi online page at http://www.whiten.co.uk/weather.html
- the rain
sensor is counting but the display is only in whole inches at the moment).
Additional sensors just connect across the bus and are polled in software.

I have run a length of Cat 5 out the side of the house and split it at the
greenhouse for one sensor and at the end of the garden for the weather
station and additional temp and rain sensors. Only a single pair in the
cat5 cable is used and in this configuration 300m is not out of the
question.

I am using DS18S20 temp sensors at the moment and plan to add others as
time
permits. These are simple three-legged packages that are very simple to
locate and connect to the bus. As I understand it, the iButton version is
an identical chip housed in the typical Dallas iButton stainless steel can.

If I can be of any further help just shout.

Regards,

Jon

1. Can the temperature iButton give out real-time data or does it just
'record' it and then pass it back when 'connected'?

2. Has anyone tried multiple iButtons on a on a 'LAN'?

3. Anyone got any other possible solutions?

many thanks

Andy
