My opinion of you has just plummeted Mark:) .mp3 IMHO is one of the worst
things that could have happened to music reproduction. While the industry
is
struggling to introduce SACD, and DVD Audio forget multi-channel, but let
the increased sampling rate and word length bring us digital convenience
with sound quality approaching the best analogue playback systems, another
camp is pushing for convenience over quality. For those of us who listen to
music rather than just have ambient background sounds, the move towards
mass
market acceptance of an inferior medium will only serve to push good
quality
HiFi into even more of a specialist arena than it is already.
And while I'm ranting, what about Virgin radio's ad, about receiving
"CD
quality" sound on Sky digital? It's not bad - but again it uses mpeg
compression technology. If anyone doesn't beleive me, I can do an A-B
demonstration of the difference!
I feel better now I've got that off my chest.
Opinions? Comments?
