Sadly, I know the feeling.

My new house seems to have a dirty mains supply (builders wiring the
estate up with bell wire?) but thought my server was safe with its UPS
keeping the power nice and clean.

What I didn't expect was spikes at 03:00 AM triggering the UPS and
causing the damn thing to wake me up!

Of course, the computer was fine next morning, it was me that needed
restoring!

I rewired my Brother's house to add a shower and a split load consumer
unit complete with a RCD. When it kept tripping much to the annoyance
of my sibling, I thought the dishwasher had a bad heating element
leaking current to earth,

On trudging round with a tool kit I took the plug apart and found a
dozy 'service engineer' had reversed earth and neutral!

My Brother went from being annoyed at the tripping of the 'all new'
fusebox to being very pleased he wasn't electrocuted!

Oh, back to the point, on my newer Celeron 433 my 30minute R4 program
takes less than an hour to encode using Bladeenc. During this time the
CPU is flat out, but the box is quite usable. Wonderful thing, Unix!
