Mark,

I looked into this just before Christmas. At that time the 2Mb stuff was available, but now you can get 11Mbit cards for not much more. There do seem to be different cards for Europe, even though they both use 2.4GHz - I  may bite the bullet and order a couple of the cards from the US, though I do expect the price to fall significantly this year. As "hot desking" becomes more prevelant, I'd expect this stuff to become as common as DECT cordless phones

Thanks Kwong.  I have passed this on to my mate.

Yes, we are using the WebGear Aviator 2.4GHz wireless LAN. Speed
is 2
Mbits, power 100mW. A bit slow but still much faster than our ISDN
connection. It comes as PCMCIA cards only. For desktop PCs, an ISA PCMCIA
slot card is available. A special offer of two PCMCIA cards and two ISA
slots cost around £200 including shipping and taxes. We have eight of them
for various PCs and laptops. It comes with a restricted Windows Proxy
program for up to two remote stations sharing a single PSTN/ISDN
line. Since we run Linux as one of the main servers, there is no
restriction on numbers. Up to 63 remote cards may be used.

The one problem with the card is that it interferes with the X-10 VS30E
Wireless Video Senders that we sell. So if you are watching DVD remotely
using the VS30E, don't switch on the WebGear.
