Just before you all get too excited at 2Mbps ADSL connections, I'll do my
usual killjoy engineer act- sorry!

1) Contention- the proposed ADSL offerings give up to 20:1 contention, so
if everyone else on the same port is using it, you might get less
throughput than a single ISDN line.  Basically, owt for nowt- you can pay
more to get less contention... the benefit is that you can be on all day
for the same charge...

2) Servers- A proposed/current limitation is that servers can't be run at
the consumer end of ADSL, with the ADSL box in your house blocking incoming
ports.  So you might have to think of something cunning to pass messages to
your house- eg by email- rather than accessing your own personal web
server.

There are reports from the French implementation, which has even worse
contention, that some folk preferred their 56k modems... full gory details
are on news:uk.telecom if you are prepared
to wade through the rubbish...
