Extra 100 exchanges to get ADSL

BT has put an extra 26 towns and cities on the map of Broadband Britain by
announcing the next 100 exchanges to be converted to asymmetric digital
subscriber line (ADSL) technology.

New locations are in Kent, the north west and the south coast - with
further
exchanges to be converted in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Birmingham.

The latest announcement means that by the middle of this year 35 per cent
of
the UK population will be covered by ADSL.

The company is already on track to deliver the first major phase of its
ADSL
rollout - the conversion of 400 exchanges by the end of March - which will
cover about 25 per cent of the population.

No precise details of where the extra towns are but the more the merrier.
I was told a few weeks ago that most of the main towns in the UK would have
ADSL by 2003.
Sadly, no mention of my neck of the woods.....yet. :-((
