Hi
Mark,
I
have
a 4 Serial port + 2 Parallel port card that I got from the states. It can
be set
to use one interupt for all ports although I have it set to share 3
different
interrupts with the motherboard ports.
The
card is a Model: TC-420-S5-4
I
have
it configured for COM3-COM6 and LPT2 -LPT3
Motherboard ports are COM1-2 and
LPT1
Interrupts are set as
Com
1-3-5 Int4
Com
2-4-6 Int3
LPT
1-2-3 Int7
Total
cost including shipping was $72 US which was about 40 quid at the time.
Maplin
wanted that much for a 2 Serial card. Current price of the board is listed
as
$47 US
4
port
serial only is $42 for ISA, $89 for PCI
They
have an 8 port serial for $119 in ISA version, max speed
460k
or
$179 for the PCI version, max speed 920k
I
do
have the limitation at the moment that I cant use 2 ports that share an
interupt
at the same time but that isnt a problem for me as I have Homevision and
Activehome sharing an interupt and I dont use both programs at the same
time.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the PCI cards, although more expensive, were
better because you didnt get problems with interrupts.
Just
had a look at the website and they have details on how to share the
interrupts
under DOS, Win95/98 etc.
Have
fun :-))

Holy
SH*T....you're not joking. JUST what I'm after but tooooooo pricey
:-(
Thanks.
M.
Mark,
They come in 4, 8 and 16 port versions, use 1 interupt and come in
PCI or ISA versions. The only drawback is the price - a bit on the
expensive side i'm afraid.
Regards
Paul Giles.
A 4 or 8 port card I
think.
Currently running Win98SE and
Win2000.
What I really need is a recommendation
on a particular make/model that works well with 1 IRQ.
Thanks
M.
Mark,
How many ports are you looking at expanding to and what operating system
are
you running.
I have used several different cards from 2 port to 16 port under 95/98
& NT,
all with 100% success.
Paul

Subject: [ukha_d] Multi Serial Port Cards
Hi All
I need more serial ports for my HA PC.
So far I need to connect HomeVision, Caller ID box, Comfort. The machine
already has 2 ports free so all I need is a third, thought who knows what
I'll need in the future.
Has anyone any experience of a nice multi-port serial card - one of the
ones
that only uses one IRQ?
your advice / experience appreciated.
M.
