This could be a generic problem as I too am seeing this with a 2w halogen
desk lamp.

I think I tried that, actually I probably went through most of the morse
alphabet ;-)
If it does work though, is there a similar way to turn the appliance module
off locally, so I can leave the appliance module off and the lamp's own
switch on?
That _would_ be useful, but I suspect there isn't. You probably can't
think of a reason why I would want to do that, but there is one!
