Re: RJ45 wiring
Here's a CAT5 patch lead:
1. White/Orange 1.
2. Orange/White 2.
3. White/Green 3.
4. Blue/White 4.
5 White/Blue 5.
6 Green/White 6.
7. White/Brown 7.
8. Brown/White 8.
The above would be used for all types of PC -> router wiring. But NOT
for
PC -> PC, or router -> router. These use a crossed cable.
Note how the white/green and green/white are NOT next to each other !
In fact only pins 1, 2, 3, & 6 are used, but all should be wired as
above in
case you wire the plug upside down ! :-)
If you haven't used crimp RJ45's before, it can be a nightmare, but once
used to it you should be able to start and finish one within about 2-3
minutes. Best wire is to strip the wire to about an inch, and then pull
back
the outer to reveal more wire. Keep the outer pulled back and carefully
assemble each wire in order ONE BY ONE, making sure each one is straight.
Then cut the wires horizontally straight leaving about 1.5 cms and then
feed
the wire into the plug. Now PUSH the pulled back outer into the plug so it
is under the strain relief, and then make 100% sure all the wires have gone
all the way in, and crimp.
